How To Banish Dry Skin

While there's lots about winter to love – wrapping up warm, drinking mulled beverages in cosy pubs and generally getting involved in festive cheer – there's a lot to loathe, too. Dark, cold mornings when you're forced out from under the duvet, icy roads and, worst of all, persistently dry skin are just a few of the things that make life that little bit harder in the bleaker months.

We can't do much about the weather, but we can offer some ways to ensure your skin stays silky smooth, and doesn't give in to the harsh climate and central heating this winter.

1. Drink water. Yes, yes, we know you've heard it a million times before, but do you have a bottle of water on your desk right now? Thought not. Walk over to the tap this minute and fill up – staying hydrated is important, and not just because it stops your skin from drying out.

2. Moisturise. If you suffer from dry skin, then the right moisturizer can work wonders. Sufferers should look out for moisturisers that include oil or oil-like ingredients (that's ceramics, dimethicone and squalene among others) and water-holding ingredients, such as Glycerin and Lanolin. Cover up with the right foundation, and you're skin will be looking fabulous in no time.

3. Eat right. You are what you eat, as the saying goes, so if you want to have a glowing facade, then filling your face with foods including avocado, oily fish, nuts and leafy greens will help you look radiant – and keep you healthy.
